–
Victoria: What makes you better than the competition?
Cheryl: Experience, professionalism, and honesty. It’s not about me getting a job, it’s about what’s best for my client. I work with and for my clients so they get the day they’ve dreamed of and the day they are paying for. I don’t just say I’ll do this. My clients can trust me. I offer a guarantee that is in writing on every contract.
Victoria: Tell us about your most exciting experience
Cheryl: Every wedding is the most exciting experience. It is a beginning; the start of a new life together. Families are brought together. Friends are celebrating. It’s a joyous time and very exciting for me personally.
Victoria: Tell us about your most challenging experience, how did you handle it
Cheryl: When the mother of the bride and the sister of the groom each had opposing opinions on the day of the wedding that were contrary to what was discussed with the bride. I explained to them what I was doing and why, then I asked for their input and suggestions. The bride got what she wanted, the mom was happy, and the sister was thrilled. I received thank you notes from all of them.
Victoria: What advice can you give to our readers?
Cheryl: Protect yourself when hiring a DJ or MC for your wedding. There aren’t any industry standards and you really don’t know who you are hiring. Make sure you get a contract. Don’t just shop price – the cheapest isn’t always the best. Make sure the DJ you hire is the one who will show up. Often times companies will bait and switch on a client i.e. you’ll pay a higher price, then get sent a $200 DJ you don’t know. Hire someone in a professional organization where the members are held to higher standards such as the ADJA (American Disc Jockey Association) or NAME (National Association of Mobile Entertainers). Remember – Your wedding is a once in a lifetime day you will never have again. Hiring a professional, even if it costs a little more, will be worth it.
Victoria: Is there anything else about your and/or your company that you would like the readers to know?
Cheryl: I was a professional entertainer and in the television and recording industry for a number of years before I started Cheryl Q Productions. I truly enjoy entertaining – it’s not just a job. I enjoy doing weddings and put a lot of time into the preparation. If I don’t feel a client is a good match for me I will decline their booking. I am client service oriented. If a client wants specialty lighting, additional sound systems, or to be showered with rose petals, I have these available. I’m also an ordained minister (non-denominational) and can step in if needed.
